Who is this program for

The PGWP targets international graduates from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada who have completed a full-time study program of at least 8 months leading to a diploma, certificate, or degree. Candidates must have maintained full-time student status during their studies and applied for the PGWP within 180 days of receiving written confirmation of program completion.

Process steps

1. Complete your study program

Ensure you have completed all requirements of your program and received a completion confirmation letter or your final transcript from your DLI.

2. Verify PGWP eligibility

Confirm that your program and institution are eligible for the PGWP. Check the DLI list on the IRCC website and ensure your program meets the criteria.

3. Gather required documents

Prepare: valid passport, completion letter/transcript, copy of your study permit, photos, proof of tuition payment.

4. Submit online application

Log into your IRCC account and submit your PGWP application within 180 days of receiving your completion confirmation.

5. Implied status during processing

If you submitted your application before your study permit expired, you have implied status allowing you to continue working (if authorized) during processing.

6. Receive the PGWP

Once approved, you receive your PGWP. The duration varies based on your study length: up to 3 years for programs of 2 years or more.
