Provincial Immigration

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)

Each Canadian province (except Quebec) has its own PNP to attract immigrants who meet their specific labor market and economic needs.

Understanding Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) in Canada

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) are immigration pathways that allow Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and settle in a particular province. A provincial nomination adds 600 points to your CRS score in Express Entry, virtually guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.

How PNP Works with Express Entry

Most provinces offer Express Entry-aligned streams that work in conjunction with the federal Express Entry system. When you receive a provincial nomination through these streams, you automatically receive 600 additional CRS points, which significantly increases your chances of receiving an ITA. Non-Express Entry streams, called "base" streams, are processed separately but still lead to permanent residence.

Key Benefits of PNP

  • +600 CRS Points: Provincial nomination guarantees you'll receive an ITA
  • Lower Requirements: Some PNP streams have lower requirements than federal programs
  • Targeted Occupations: Programs tailored to provincial labor market needs
  • Multiple Pathways: Options for skilled workers, international graduates, entrepreneurs
  • Regional Opportunities: Access to jobs and communities across Canada

Popular Provincial Nominee Programs

Ontario (OINP): Canada's most populous province offers streams for skilled workers, international students, and entrepreneurs. The Human Capital Priorities stream targets Express Entry candidates with strong profiles.

British Columbia (BC PNP): The Tech Pilot program fast-tracks workers in 29 tech occupations. Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC streams serve various skilled workers.

Alberta (AAIP): Alberta Opportunity Stream and Express Entry streams target workers in high-demand occupations, particularly in energy, tech, and healthcare sectors.
