This program targets Canadian citizens and permanent residents who want to bring their dependent children to Canada. It includes biological children, children adopted abroad, and children adopted in Canada by a permanent resident who wishes to complete their immigration file.
Main criteria
Process steps
1. Verify eligibility
Confirm you are eligible as a sponsor and that your child meets the definition of dependent child.
2. Gather documents
Prepare filiation documents (birth certificate, adoption order), passports, photos, etc.
3. Submit application
Submit the sponsorship application and child's PR application through the IRCC online portal.
4. Medical exam and biometrics
The child completes a medical exam and provides biometrics if required (14 years and older).
5. Decision and CoPR
If approved, the child receives Confirmation of Permanent Residence and, if abroad, an immigrant visa.
