Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP)

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) is a community-driven program that aims to attract skilled workers to participating rural and northern communities in Canada. Unlike other programs, it is the community that recommends candidates based on their local economic needs. The program offers a pathway to permanent residence for workers who have the required skills and experience and want to live and work in these communities.

Who is this program for

Skilled workers and international graduates who wish to settle in a participating rural or northern community in Canada. Participating communities include: North Bay (ON), Sudbury (ON), Timmins (ON), Sault Ste. Marie (ON), Thunder Bay (ON), Brandon (MB), Moose Jaw (SK), Claresholm (AB), Vernon (BC), West Kootenay (BC), and Altona/Rhineland (MB).

Main criteria

Have a job offer from an employer in a participating community

Minimum language skills (CLB 6 for TEER 0, 1; CLB 5 for TEER 2, 3; CLB 4 for TEER 4, 5)

Process steps

1. Verify eligibility and choose a community

Verify you meet the criteria and choose a participating community where you want to settle.

2. Find an eligible job

Find a full-time, permanent job with an employer in the community. Each community has its own job portal.

3. Apply for community recommendation

Once you have the job offer, apply for a recommendation from the community. Each community has its own process.

4. Receive community recommendation

The community evaluates your file and, if approved, sends you a recommendation letter.

5. Submit permanent residence application

Submit your PR application to IRCC within 6 months of receiving the recommendation.
