Who is this program for
The SDS targets legal residents of eligible countries (Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Vietnam) who wish to benefit from accelerated processing of their study permit application and who can meet the program's strict criteria.
Main criteria
Process steps
1. Verify SDS eligibility
Confirm that you are a legal resident of an eligible country and can meet all SDS criteria.
2. Take the language test
Obtain a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 in each skill (or equivalent: TEF level 7, CELPIP-G 7). Results must be recent (less than 2 years old).
3. Pay tuition and purchase a GIC
Pay at least one year of tuition to your DLI and purchase a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of $20,635 CAD from a participating Canadian bank.
4. Complete medical exam and obtain police certificate
Complete a medical exam with a designated physician BEFORE submitting your application. Also obtain a police certificate from your country.
5. Submit application through SDS
Submit your study permit application online by selecting the Student Direct Stream. Attach all required documents.
6. Provide biometrics
Provide your biometrics at a designated collection point quickly after submitting your application.
7. Receive decision (accelerated processing)
Processing through SDS is typically 20 business days. If approved, you receive your letter of introduction.
