Permanent residents 18 years or older who have met physical presence requirements, filed income taxes if required, and who wish to obtain all the rights and privileges of Canadian citizenship.
Main criteria
Process steps
1. Verify eligibility
Use the IRCC physical presence calculator to confirm you have 1,095 days of presence in Canada.
2. Obtain language skills proof
If you are between 18 and 54, provide proof of French or English skills (approved test or diploma in French/English).
3. Gather documents
Prepare your PR card, passports (current and old), proof of income, photos, and other required documents.
4. Submit application online
Create an IRCC account and submit your citizenship application with all documents and fee payment.
5. Take the citizenship test
If you are between 18 and 54, you will be invited to take the citizenship test (20 questions, 15 correct answers required).
6. Interview (if necessary)
You may be called for an interview to verify your application or assess your language skills.
7. Citizenship ceremony
If approved, you will receive an invitation to the ceremony where you will take the oath of citizenship and receive your certificate.
