Main criteria
Process steps
1. Check your status expiration date
Check your passport or arrival stamp for your stay deadline. If no date is indicated, you are authorized to stay 6 months from your entry.
2. Gather required documents
Prepare: passport, proof of funds for the extension period, reason for extension, proof of ties to your home country.
3. Submit online application
Create an IRCC account and submit your extension application (visitor record) online with fee payment.
4. Benefit from implied status
If you submitted before your status expired, you can legally stay in Canada while your application is being processed.
5. Receive visitor record
If approved, you receive a visitor record indicating the new deadline of your stay in Canada.
