Who is this program for

The visitor visa targets citizens of visa-required countries who wish to enter Canada for: tourism and vacations, visiting family or friends, attending conferences or business meetings (without working), participating in cultural events or activities, transiting through Canada to another country. Most nationals from Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and certain regions of Latin America need this visa.

Process steps

1. Check if you need a visa

Use the IRCC online tool to check if you need a visitor visa or if you are eligible for an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization).

2. Gather required documents

Prepare all documents: passport, photos, proof of funds, travel itinerary, invitation letter (if applicable), proof of ties to your home country.

3. Submit application online or at VAC

Create an account on the IRCC portal and submit your application online, or submit your paper application at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) in your country.

4. Provide biometrics

Visit a biometrics collection point (usually a VAC) to provide your fingerprints and photo.

5. Submit passport (if requested)

If your application is approved in principle, you will need to submit your passport to the visa office or VAC for visa stamping.

6. Receive visa and plan travel

Once the visa is stamped, collect your passport. The visa shows if it is single or multiple entry and its expiration date. Plan your travel accordingly.
