Who is this program for
The open work permit targets spouses/common-law partners of foreign workers holding a TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 permit, spouses/partners of international students at master's or doctoral level, permanent residence applicants whose application is being processed (bridging work permit), participants in certain programs (Working Holiday, International Experience Canada), individuals who have filed a refugee status claim, and victims of domestic violence or human trafficking.

Process steps
1. Determine your eligibility
Identify the open work permit category you are eligible for: worker's spouse, student's spouse, PR applicant, International Experience Canada, etc.
2. Gather required documents
Prepare all documents: passport, proof of relationship (marriage certificate, proof of cohabitation), proof of principal's status, photos, forms.
3. Submit online application
Create an IRCC account and submit your open work permit application online with all documents and fee payment.
4. Provide biometrics
If you have never provided biometrics or if they have expired, go to a designated collection point.
5. Receive decision
IRCC processes your application. If approved, you receive your open work permit allowing you to work for any employer in Canada.
